During her university years, Irmak completed three internships at two reputable Turkish law firms and in the Legal Department of Koc Holding. Following her graduation from Koc University she worked in the Corporate/M&A team of Pekin & Pekin for two years first as a trainee lawyer then as an associate lawyer. During 2009 - 2010 Irmak took study leave to complete her Masters after winning a European Union Scholarship, which she undertook at Queen Mary University of London. The area of research for her Masters degree was in International Commercial and Corporate Law. After completing her Masters, Irmak rejoined Pekin&Pekin and advised clients on employment, intellectual property, real estate and general corporate matters for four more years as a Senior Associate. Since 2007, she has become the author of several international publications and presented in conferences in London as a speaker.During her career Irmak has been involved in many projects. Apart from advising clients on a full range of corporate and commercial transactions including major M&A projects in the energy, telecoms, ports and airports sectors, Irmak also advised clients in Turkish law relating to intellectual property, consumer rights, and in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, banking, real estate, media and telecommunications.

Irmak’s recent law practice saw her intensively engaged in advisory practices with an increasing level of responsibility as a senior associate. In particular dealing with corporate legal issues of foreign clients, taking part in the drafting and the negotiation of various contracts, company incorporations and conducting due diligence - legal risk analysis. She also gained exposure to a variety of sectors and high profile foreign clients in relation to M&A transactions and advised on laws from a Turkish perspective.

More specifically, Irmak was involved in the advisory practice specialising in the fields of employment & labour law, intellectual property, commercial and corporate law, and gained significant experience while taking part in drafting and negotiation of various agreements and formulating legal opinion. In summary, Irmak’s key capabilities are in consultancy services and legal assistance relating to all matters of employment and labour law crucial to the effective operation of business interests in Turkey. She has advised on the protection and exploitation of IP rights in Turkey and acted in an extensive range of intellectual property matters including trademarks, designs, domain names, licenses and confidential information.

Early in her law career, Melis completed trainee programmes, two of which were at well-known Turkish law firms, and one which was at a reputable law firm in London. Additionally, she undertook a fourth in Pfizer Turkey. During these traineeships Melis gained critically important experience in labour law, commercial law and pharmaceutical industry sector. While undertaking her law degree at Istanbul Bilgi University she has attended several certificate programs including the Conference on Draft Commercial Law (2009). Following her graduation from Bilgi University she worked in the Corporate/M&A team of Pekin & Pekin law firm which is based in Istanbul. She joined first as a trainee lawyer and was subsequently made an associate lawyer for the remaining five years of her time with the firm. During this period, she also become the author of several international publications and presented in conferences which took place in London.

During her career, Melis has been involved in many projects. Apart from advising clients on a full range of corporate and commercial transactions including major M&A projects in the energy, telecoms, ports and airports sectors, Melis also advised clients in Turkish law relating to intellectual property, consumer rights, pharmaceuticals, banking, real estate, media and telecommunications sectors. She also advised many major local and international companies regarding employment and labour law issues, social security and payroll matters, work and residence permits and on requirements of Turkish employment and labour legislation during and after the establishment new corporate entities in Turkey. In addition to various major projects, Melis has been involved in the sale of the consumer banking business of a reputable bank in Turkey and was retained following the sale to provide consultancy services by the bank. She is also approved as the sworn translator for English translation services.
